Fibonacci retracements
After a strong move, price rarely goes straight — it pulls back part of the way before (often) continuing. Fibonacci retracements mark the fractions where those pullbacks tend to pause: 38.2%, 50% and 61.8% of the prior move. You draw them from the swing low to the swing high and watch whether a dip finds support around one of those levels before resuming the trend. It isn't magic — it partly works because so many traders watch the same levels, making them self-fulfilling — so treat each level as a zone, not a precise line, and trust it most when it lines up with other support or resistance.
📌 For instance ·
A stock rallies from Rs 200 to Rs 300 — a Rs 100 move. It then pulls back, and traders draw Fibonacci levels: the 38.2% retracement sits near Rs 262, the 50% near Rs 250, the 61.8% near Rs 238. Price dips, stalls right around Rs 250, and resumes higher. The 50% level acted as support — partly because so many were watching it. Treat it as a zone (Rs 245-255), and it's far stronger here because it also lined up with a prior support shelf.
❓ Common questions ·
Why do Fibonacci levels seem to work?
Partly self-fulfilling prophecy: so many traders draw the same 38.2/50/61.8 levels and place orders around them that price does react there. There's nothing mystical about the numbers themselves — their usefulness comes from being a widely-watched, shared reference, which is why they work best when they overlap with other real support or resistance.
Which retracement level matters most?
None is guaranteed, but the 50% and 61.8% levels are the most-watched for a healthy pullback in a trend. A shallow dip to 38.2% shows strong demand; a deep one past 61.8% starts to question whether the trend is still intact. Treat each as a zone and look for confirmation before acting.
